Facts and Jewelry Care

What is Polymer Clay?

Most of our earrings are currently made of polymer clay. Polymer clay is great for earrings and other jewelry because it is very lightweight, and easy to manipulate and create with until you want to set your design. Polymer clay is a non-toxic PVC material that when baked becomes strong, durable and slightly malleable.

When baked properly you should be able to bend polymer clay but different clays and designs do not hold up as well as others so we ask that you do not bend our jewelry or it may cause it to crack, break or create creases.

While we conduct flex tests after making all of our pieces, each piece is unique and some pieces may hold up better than others under different stresses and wear time. We ask you to please not attempt to bend or conduct flex tests on our pieces as they will not be replaced if broken under these circumstances.

Are your pieces hypoallergenic?

All of our earring posts and jump rings are stainless steel or gold plated stainless steel (unless otherwise stated in the product description) which are considered to be hypoallergenic. While this lessens the risk of an allergic reaction we can not guarantee that you will not have an allergic reaction to any of our products.

Some of our findings and charms are made of brass which is not considered to be hypoallergenic. This portion of the earring does not usually touch your skin but if you have a sensitivity or allergy it is still possible it could cause a reaction.

Polymer Clay Jewelry Care

  • Avoid swimming or showering in your polymer clay jewelry.
  • Avoid any chemicals or products from touching your jewelry as it could damage your piece. This includes products such as solvents, perfumes, jewelry cleansers, lotions, makeup etc.
  • If your jewelry becomes dirty wipe with a damp cloth. I use microfibre cloths for just about everything and they work great! If you have any questions about cleaning with anything other than a damp cloth please contact us as your earrings may be finished with a coating that could come off if using certain products.
  • Store your jewelry in a dry, safe place such as a jewelry box.
  • Keep your polymer clay jewelry away from any sharp objects to avoid scratching the surface.
  • Keep away from excessive sunlight or extreme heat.

Brass Care

Brass will naturally tarnish over time but wetting it will speed up the process.

If the brass portion of your earring becomes tarnished you can polish it up using a metal polish such as Brasso (that is what I use). Avoid touching the clay portion of the earring when polishing the brass and wipe clean with a damp cloth after.

If you have any questions about what part of your jewelry may be brass just shoot us an email!
